Customs Regulations

Owing to restrictions and frequently changing customs regulations, only non-binding information can be given on the following areas:
  • developing countries in Asia
  • South America
  • Africa
Worldwide, no customs duties and taxes are levied on removal and household goods, with only a few exceptions. However, this is subject to the goods having been used for at least 6-12 months prior to their removal. For removal goods to be exempted from customs duties or import taxes, the following documents are required in most countries:
  • detailed household descriptive inventory
  • work permit or employment contract
  • residence permit
  • passport

In most countries, the import of alcoholic beverages is strictly forbidden or due to heavy import taxes.

Many countries levy duties on new goods or on goods that have been used for less than 12 months.

Some countries require the presence of the importer (owner of the goods) during customs clearance. No general information can be given that is valid for all removals. In contrast, each removal requires competent advice and individual attention until the goods are delivered in the country of destination.

Swiss Moving Service AG guarantee a successful and pleasant removal to every place, be that a capital in North America or any remote spot in the Far East.
